TIPS FOR MOVING WITH DOGS AND CATS
As a moving company, we understand that moving can be stressful, especially when you have furry friends. Here are some simple tips to make the move easier for you and your pets.
1. Make one last visit to the vet
While many pets don’t like going to the vet, it’s important to take them for a check-up before moving, especially if you’re moving far away and need a new vet or if you’re flying. Plan ahead and make sure everything is in order: vaccinations, health documents, and travel tips.
2. Consider a pet boarding kennel option
If possible, leave your pets in a boarding facility on moving day. This will reduce the risk of escape, accidents, and stress, and will also keep them out of the way while the movers work. Although separation-anxious pets may feel uncomfortable at first, this is often the safest option for both them and you.
3. Maintain a stable routine
Dogs and cats thrive on routine, and any significant change can cause stress. Try to maintain regular mealtimes, walks, and playtime. Bring along their favorite toys and bed—these familiar items will help them feel calmer throughout the process.
4. Accustomed to traveling in advance
Prepare them gradually for transport:
- For cats, leave the carrier in an accessible place with the door open, allowing them to explore it and associate it with something positive.
- For dogs, getting them used to a crate or kennel during short car trips is helpful. Gradually increase the length of the trips to make them feel more comfortable.
